Landscape Quilting

In this class, you will learn how to use scrap fabrics, thread and yarn to create a unique representation of a landscape based on your favorite place in nature or a scene from your imagination. Kim will show you various hand-sewing techniques such as appliqué, couching, and decorative stitches to add texture, atmosphere, and depth to your chosen landscape. She will also share how she chooses colors and patterns that complement each other when creating a composition with intention and improvisation.

Recording

All Hand Sewn Quilting Series sessions will be recorded. A link to each recording will be emailed to all registrants following the live session. Each link is live for three months after the live session.

Class Materials

  • Scrap fabric
  • Base fabric (e.g. muslin) about 10” x 10”
  • Threads in various weights: embroidery thread, quilting thread, sashiko thread, and other thread you have on hand
  • Hand-sewing needles
  • Thimble
  • Pins
  • Scrap yarn
  • Fabric Scissors and/or snips
  • Iron
  • Optional: buttons, beads, string, or other notions you might want to play with

About the Hand Sewn Quilting Series

Under the guidance of contemporary textile artists, participants of all levels will engage with various quilting techniques. Beginners will gain confidence and a deeper understanding of quilting foundations, while experienced makers will expand their skills and textile knowledge beyond the basics.
