This bag is perfect for carrying around your favorite stitching supplies, a knitting or crochet project, or small essentials. Surprise your sweetheart by gifting this pouch filled with chocolate or love notes, or stitch sweet nothings into the lining! 

Use your favorite fabric scraps as patchwork pieces, appliqués or ‘under patches'. Add a few running stitches or other embroidery stitches to create additional texture. These pouches only require a small amount of fabric, so you can dig through your stash. Or treat yourself to a few yards of your favorite fabrics and make some for all the loves in your life!

Overcome your zipper sewing fears and learn skills that can be applied to any other hand sewing project! You will gain an arsenal of skills that will allow you to approach other sewing with a kind of slowness and mindfulness only hand stitching can bring.

Techniques covered in class: backstitch, running stitch, appliqué, reverse appliqué, zipper incorporation.

Suggested Class Materials

• Finished pouch measurements: Approximately 6" x 4" [14.5 x 10.2 cm]

  If you need to purchase fabric, here are the requirements based on 44” wide fabric. You should be able to make several with just this amount.

  Recommended fabrics: medium weight linen or linen blend, quilting cotton or lightweight canvas.

  • ¼ yd [22.8 cm] Exterior fabric    

  •  ¼ yd [22.8 cm] Lining fabric (I like a lightweight canvas or sturdy linen

  •  Additional 4” square [10cm] fabric for reverse heart appliqué   

  •  (1) 5" [12.7 cm] zipper (I like the metal ones from ZipIt on Etsy)  

  •  (1) 6" [15.2 cm] thin leather strip/lacing/twill tape for pull tab (optional)

If you have meaningful fabric you would like to use, please feel free to use it in class. This is a great project to incorporate special and meaningful pieces or scraps of cloth you have at home.
