Riches from Rags: Saki-ori and Other Recycling Traditions in Japanese Rural Clothing

Catalog of an exhibition held at the San Francisco Craft and Folk Art Museum, May 28 to August 6, 1994, focusing on 19th and early 20th century Japanese working class clothing made from recycled cotton materials. 

This is a rare, out-of-print book that is wonderfully illustrated, with a detailed analysis of the background, history, and use of fibers. Includes chapters on Saki-Ori, Sashiko, and Jimpi, with a glossary and bibliography.
