The magnetic needle minder is a handy sewing accessory to rest your sewing needles during projects. There is also a needle polisher built in to maintain needles that are sharp and move smoothly through cloth.
The needle rest is made of glazed ceramic, the same type that has been used as roofing tiles on Japanese castles for centuries.
The first kawara, traditional Japanese roof tiles, were made for Japanese castles dating back to 1610. There are several types of kawara depending on how they are made, and this item is classified as a ceramic tile that is glazed and fired. Different colors of glaze create unique expressions. Each one has its own uniqueness, resulting in a colorful tool that adds charm to your handicraft time. This is especially true of the blue glaze that shows beautiful shades of blue to blue-green.
The needle minders are made on Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture, which is blessed with good clay for making ceramics. It is one of the leading kawara-producing areas in Japan.
